Why do I need the Vector app?
The key thing you’ll need the app for is getting Vector connected to your home WiFi network for the first time or the WiFi network at the locations you take him. Once the app get’s Vector going, you’ll want to keep it around for things like seeing what he’s doing, checking the photos you have him take, reviewing the people he’s met, or getting suggestions on how to use a voice command. The Vector app is there to help you when you need help with Vector.
How do I set up Vector?
Vector is a WiFi-connected device and while Vector should work in most people’s homes, everyone’s network is different. Where you locate Vector can impact how well he’ll perform, so pick a location for him that’s relatively quiet and close to your router or WiFi access point. Also it’s not the strength of your WiFi signal, but the quality of the connection, so congested or intermittent connections won’t allow Vector to work his best. If you do have issues and need to contact us, please have most of the details of where you’re using him and your WiFi network ready. For further information on setting up Vector, see this FAQ.
What else should I know?

At launch, the Vector app and Vector voice commands are English-only. The Vector app is only available for download in the US, UK, New Zealand, Canada, and Australia.
Does Vector have Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration?
Vector has its own personality and smarts. We are currently working with Amazon to integrate Alexa into Vector. This partnership is in its infancy but we will share more details soon, including likely timings which we are expecting to be towards the end of 2018 or early 2019.
Alexa will be opt-in. Users who do choose to opt in will need an Amazon account.
Will there be an SDK?
Yes. An SDK for Vector - based on Python language - will be available Winter 2018.
Those who pre-ordered Vector on Anki.com UK before 30 September will receive early access to the SDK before it becomes available to the general public - we plan to provide a pre-alpha version of the SDK on Wednesday 24th October. The pre-alpha won't have every feature in it, and you may run into a bug or two, but it will let you get started exploring and creating things with the SDK.
